Oishei Children's Hospital is celebrated the holiday with some new arrivals in its Easter basket.
Kaleida Health is reminding expecting parents in Western New York that the hospital is still the safest place to deliver a baby right now — despite COVID-19.
The hospital is taking extra steps to protect against the virus including:
- Enhanced cleaning and workflow protocols
- Reduced visitation for Emergency Department and inpatient units
- Allowing for one (1) support person during delivery only
- Universal masking throughout the hospital for all staff and visitors
- Entrance and Exit precautions — Parents & newborn can be escorted directly through exit to parking garage — If street exit is preferred, parents and newborn will be escorted to a separate exit from the point of entry for the general public
Mandy Manzella gave birth at Oishei on Saturday. She and her husband Mike say they wouldn't have done it any differently.
"From the moment that we even pulled in, we knew that precautions were being taken. When we walked in the door we were screened right away with the list of screening questions and had our temperatures taken. We had masks coming in but we were offered a new one if we wanted it," said Mandy Manzella.
Kaleida suggests new parents introduce their newborn to family through Skype, Facetime and social media to limit the possible exposure of COVID-19.
