Those on the front lines of care during the COVID-19 outbreak at Kaleida Health in Buffalo are getting some much-needed care of their own.
The Kaleida Health system is releasing a list of updates and reminders to the public.
First and foremost, leaders say they're continuing to test their own workforce to help ensure its health and safety.
The health system, which is comprised of thousands of healthcare workers spread out over several area hospitals, is also actively recruiting for its COVID-19 response team.
The group is calling on nurses, doctors, and support staff from across the community, as the need grows for experienced critical care staff. Kaleida is also asking for the community's help to protect its staff in the coming days and weeks by donating any unused masks.
Any N95 and Non-N95 masks will be accepted.
N95 masks that are in high need are:
- 3M 1860 model (size regular and small)
- Halyard model #46767 and 46867
To help, contact the Kaleida Health Coronavirus Command Center:

- Email coronaviruscommandcenter@kaleidahealth.org
As for the public in general, Kaleida is also reminding people to stay home, practice social distancing, and proper hygiene, including handwashing and using hand sanitizer.
Another reminder — if you, or someone around you, feels symptomatic, do not go to the emergency room, or Urgent Care, but call a doctor instead.
Health care providers will decide if a test is necessary.
