SUNY Brockport and the New York State Canal Corporation are marking a milestone in the Brockport pedestrian bridge project.

A steel signing ceremony was held Wednesday at the site of the multi-million dollar project. Once it's finished, the bridge will connect the SUNY Brockport campus to the village and the Empire State Trail.

"Even though the canal has been open for 199 years, we are still yet to unlock its full potential," said Heidi Macpherson, president of SUNY Brockport.

The bridge is set to open next year, coinciding with the Erie Canal's bicentennial.
