BUFFALO, N.Y. — Two local organizations are working together to help commemorate the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks
Every year, the Red Cross partners with the Western New York families of September 11 to proudly display nearly 3,000 flags on the lawn of its Delaware Avenue headquarters, representing each life lost 20 years ago.
For the special anniversary this year, the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra will be playing a tribute for victims, volunteers and first responders at Kleinhans.
In honor of the performance, the flags have been moved from Delaware Avenue to Symphony Circle.
"We decided to move the flag display here this year as well to Kleinhans,” Red Cross division communications director Jay Bonafede said. “So that the folks that come to that concert next Saturday really have this powerful visual symbol of what happened on September 11, 2001."
The commemorative concert "American Resilience: 20th Anniversary Commemoration to 9/11 Heroes," will take place next Saturday, September 11 at 7:30 p.m.
