NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Protesters separated by an international line stood together in solidarity Saturday, making their voices heard.
People from both the United States and Canada met on the Rainbow Bridge in protest of the border closure.
Many argued that the closure is keeping families and friends apart as well as impacting businesses and property owners.
This is something that many Western New York lawmakers, including Congressman Brian Higgins, have also argued in their continued fight to open the border.
While Canada has continually extended their closure for more than a year due to the pandemic, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently announced that a reopening would happen within a few weeks.
The border has been closed since March of 2020. As of now, the border closure will remain in effect until July 21.
