Boxes of toys are being distributed to families in need during social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The Salvation Army of Niagara Falls is teaming up with The Justice League of Western New York to deliver Rainy Day Activity kits to children.
"I got a few phone calls from parents who were really struggling. These were parents who were involved in some of our other programs throughout the week. They're not used to having kids home for eight hours a day. We have an attic full of toys left over from Christmases past. We went through and tried to pick out the more activity-based games," said Major Stephen Carroll, Salvation Army of Niagara Falls Commanding Officer.
As a father, Major Steve Carroll understands that being home 24/7 can feel like a big change for a kid, and can also take a toll on a family.
"My wife and I can certainly relate. We need to be parents and that's our primary responsibility, but we also have work responsibilities and our own sanity to think of. Trying to juggle everything now and being stuck at home is really hard," said Carroll.
Cosplayers from the Justice League of Western New York are helping to leave the kits in front of the homes of about 26 children in need living in Niagara Falls.
"I think by seeing superheroes delivering gifts today, it will bring a little spark of brightness to them. They're getting a little crazy stuck in the house. It's a little nuts out there. They're parents may be a little nervous. This is a little spot of normalcy for them," said Bob Hubbard, Justice League of WNY Executive Director.
During a trying time or uncertainty and social distancing, these real-life superheroes are trying to ease families' worries in any way that they can.
