Many state lawmakers and legislative candidates have called for transparency and ethics reform in the legislature--and one assembly candidate suggests starting with the per diem system. Rachel Barnhart points out that lawmakers get $172 a day to cover travel expenses, regardless of how much money they actually spend. While she's promised not to pocket money she can't account for using if she is elected, she says this problem is one of many reform issues she hopes to tackle.
