BUFFALO, N.Y. – A local iconic theater is set to celebrate its 100th birthday, just in time for the surprising news from the state that movie theaters outside of New York City can reopen.

The North Park Theater in Buffalo is set to celebrate its centennial on November 21st, but there will be guidelines and restrictions in place.

Theaters can only have 25 percent occupancy with a maximum of 50 people per screening. Members of the North Park say it's worth it to welcome back customers after seven months of empty seats.

"People want to get out of the house. They enjoy socializing, they enjoy being with family and friends,” said the theater’s Program Director Ray Barker. “Movies are a cheap, wonderful form of entertainment. It's a great art form. We have eclectic offerings for every single taste.  We're really excited about being reopened."

Friday will be a family night at the North Park. Barker says he plans to show Halloween favorites "Hocus Pocus" and "The Nightmare Before Christmas."
