NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — The Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center is a place dedicated to showcasing the authentic stories surrounding the underground railroad, as well as the freedom seekers and abolitionists who fought so hard to end slavery.
The center has a lot happening in February for Black History Month, including speakers, children’s workshops, live music and virtual tours.
The center also features its more permanent exhibits. Leaders say the artifacts and exhibits help bring those historic stories to light.
Amid the pandemic, leaders here are hoping to sign up more members and encourage more visitors, not only to the center but the city as well.
They say winter in Niagara Falls is just as beautiful as the summer.
“Especially the falls being frozen over and a lot of the other different things, but we have a lot of programming often in the winter that is socially distanced," said Evan Wright, director of operations, "It’s good for families and getting memberships to the heritage center is a great way to support and also get some exclusive access to these programs that we have.”
The Niagara Falls Underground Railroad Heritage Center is open from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Thursday - Sunday.
