The Buffalo Bills pulled the trigger on a long-expected move Friday by releasing Charles Clay.

The high-priced tight end was let go after four seasons with the Bills. He had one more year left on his contract.

Clay caught nine touchdowns with Buffalo, and none over the past season.

2018 was a year to forget for Clay — he totaled a career-low 184 yards.

Clay spoke about his poor season at locker cleanout on New Year’s Eve.

"Kind of how the season went. It wasn't how I imagined it going when I wrote my goals at the beginning of the year. It wasn't how I imagined it going, but the biggest thing was being there for the young guys, continuing to work, leading by example and things like that. There's a lot of good I can take from it so that I can learn from it and it'll make me better in the future,” he said.

Clay was going to make $9 million this season. The Bills save around $4.5 million by letting him go.
