There's jacked, and then there's Ole Miss wide out DK Metcalf. The 6’ 3”, 228-pound receiver measured about 1 percent body fat at the combine.
Before taking to Indy in late February, a picture of Metcalf went viral, popping like he's photoshopped. DK’s having fun with while shutting down that notion, plus the one that says his body type doesn't work for a wide out.
"They haven't met me yet,” he said. “They haven't seen too big and seen what I can do on the field or as a 40 or bench 27 reps. They haven't seen me yet, so they can compare me to other big receivers that have been unsuccessful, but they haven't seen D.K. Metcalf."
Seeing Metcalf confirms the belief he's a freak, ripping off a 4:33 40 at that size. That said, he didn't test as well in agility drills, fueling the argument he's too big.
On the field, Metcalf has a small sample size because of injuries, with just 67 catches for over 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns in 21 games over three years. Still, that's enough action to show his potential as a true number one receiver.
"My favorite part about playing the X position has to be the one-on-one matchups and the fact that I can either block my person to the sideline or go up and get the contested catch is what really excites me,” he said. “Anytime I have a smaller corner on me I'm going to use that to my advantage to get by him or use my size to go up and make the contested catch."
The neck injury that ended Metcalf's final season with Ole Miss is behind him and he’s been cleared for full contact in January. Opinions vary as to where he should and will go in the first round, with some targeting him with the Bills at ninth overall or down through the teens.
