OWEGO, N.Y. -- After stopping at the Syracuse site earlier this week, Lockheed Martin officials showcased their Q-53 radar system in Owego Thursday, which they manufactured 100 of for the U.S. Army.

The system gives front-line soldiers the chance to detect, classify and pinpoint the location of indirect enemy fire.

Employees at the Owego facility had a hand in building the product, and officials at the plant hope this success leads to bigger things for the factory, including more jobs.

"We are in the process of installing a new machine to increase our capacity at this point. We do have spots where we have reserved different locations for additional machinery so that we can continue to grow the business," said Senior Manager Mark Felice.

Sen. Chuck Schumer recently announced $66 million in Navy contracts will be used to update helicopter avionics systems and radar kits at the Owego facility.
