WARSAW N.Y. — The mayor of Warsaw has declared a state of emergency after strong rains swept through the area Saturday night.
"Originally when this first happened it ran all past the garage and in the house, filled the basement to the top and went out the windows," said resident Tom Prusak.
Crews and residents are working to clear debris built up on drains, causing an overflow onto the streets. Warsaw Mayor Joe Robinson said he declared a sate of emergency to get more assets from around the county to help with the clean up.
"There were heavy downpours for about an hour and next thing we got a call, some flooding on the roads and we went on rounds and half the village was beings flooded," said Warsaw Fire Chief Doug Ingles.
"This was a lot of rain in a real short period of time. We do live in a valley here so the water is collected pretty quickly," said Robinson.
Mayor Robinson said the highway department and county resources are lending support.
