Home plate is getting a makeover.
The Binghamton Rumble Ponies have a new sponsor and will now be playing at what will now be called Mirabito Stadium.
“We’re ending of history regards to the stadium, but we’re beginning a brand new one,” Binghamton Mayor Rich David said Friday.
What You Need To Know
- The Rumble Ponies have a new stadium naming rights agreement with Mirabito
- Mirabito is an engery provider with Southern Tier roots
- NYSEG previously held the stadium title for 20 years but ended their agreement last year
Previously, NYSEG held the title, but they ended their agreement last year after 20 years of owning the stadium’s name.
On top of losing their sponsor, cuts from Minor League Baseball put the Rumble Ponies’ future in jeopardy.
“We’ve got a new lease on life, so to speak," David said. "A new stadium, a new agreement with Minor League Baseball for the next 10 years and a new stadium. It really is great for the city of Binghamton, great for the community and great for baseball enthusiasts."
Mirabito is an energy provider and a family-owned and operating business with roots in the Southern Tier. Announcing the partnership was bittersweet for them after losing a family member this week.
“I know as he looks down upon us, he’s glad for what we’re doing,” said Mirabito CEO Joe Mirabito.
A year of losses seems to be turning around. The partnership between Mirabito and the Rumble Ponies is a win that the city needed.
“It means a lot from a family perspective. Being able to do something like this feels like maybe reached a promise land a little bit,” said Mirabito.
