LOS ANGELES — As the LA County budget is finalized, advocacy groups such as Streets for All hope for crucial funding in the county’s Vision Zero Plan.
In 2017, because of more than 3,000 people losing their lives in traffic collisions, the county developed the plan to eliminate these deaths by 2035.
It was adopted four years ago and has since received $50 million from the county’s road fund along with around $25 million in grants.
This time around, the county has allocated $20 million in the 2024-25 recommended budget. The Public Works department also is seeking an additional $7.5 million in funding from the county’s general fund.
Advocates stress the importance of these investments to sustain these critical projects and enhance pedestrian and cyclist safety. The board will adopt the budget before July 1, but can still make changes until final adoption in October.
