Jared Kraham has essentially been promoted.

The Binghamton deputy mayor declared victory in Tuesday’s race for mayor, defeating Democratic City Councilor Joe Burns.

According to the latest unofficial results from the Broome County Board of Elections, Kraham was winning 55% of the vote, compared to 45% for Burns with 100% of precincts reporting.

"I've really been working on behalf of city of Binghamton residents for nearly eight years," Kraham said. "And this represents I think an affirmation of the direction the city is moving, but also a confidence and a faith that voters have put in me to continue to deliver results for folks."

Kraham has worked alongside Mayor Rich David for years and ran his campaign heavily on that experience in local government.

The incoming Republican mayor said the issues he heard the most from residents were related to public safety and housing. He recently announced a plan to hire a new housing prosecutor to crack down on landlords who don’t take care of their properties.

He also said infrastructure would be a priority when he takes office.
