Governor Cuomo signed an executive order Monday banning all non-essential travel to North Carolina.

The decision follows the state's controversial enactment of a law which puts limitations on transgender bathroom use.

The travel ban will require all New York State agencies, departments and boards to review requests for state funded travel to North Carolina.

After that initial review, any travel that is non-essential will not be allowed.

Cuomo signed a similar ban last year on travel to Indiana over religious freedom legislation that did not ban discrimination against the LGBT community.

The North Carolina ban will take effect immediately.
