The American Red Cross is looking to make up for lost time.
Officials say that thousands of blood products, such as plasma, platelets, and whole blood, went uncollected after this winter.
So, as people warm up and put together their spring break travel checklists, the organization is asking them to take the time to give back.
“The process of blood donation itself probably doesn’t last longer than 15-20 minutes. We do take health histories to ensure the health of the donor and make sure that they are fit to give blood at the time of their appointment. There is a bit of a recovery period afterward, but overall, it does not take a huge chunk of time,” Michael Tedisco, director of communications, Red Cross Western New York region, said.
Red Cross officials say that by giving blood, donors can save about three people’s lives.
They are looking for qualified participants, especially those with Type-0 blood types, and are giving platelets.
