Hundreds of people in Binghamton were smoking marijuana outside of the police department Tuesday to raise awareness about an important issue. Organizers used 4/20 to send a message about those locked in prison because of minor offenses with the drug.

They say legalization was a step in the right direction, but more has to be done.

One person Spectrum News spoke with also says this will help those who have been marginalized.

"It shows solidarity and also that it's about time; it's a victory for everyone, and statistics say they are locking up numerous amounts of Black and brown people because of a marijuana charge, and this is just to celebrate that we're free," said Community Organizer for Citizen Action Salka Valerio.

Citizen Action, Progressive Leaders of Tomorrow and 100 Black Men of Binghamton put on Tuesday's event.
