Central New York is in Phase 3 for reopening businesses, and many business owners are thankful for that, but some businesses, like gyms, are still having to keep their doors closed, even when Phase 4 begins Friday.
"[We expected] businesses right here in Broome County [to be included]," said County Executive Jason Garnar.
Garnar says he shares the frustration, but Gaslamp Gym's owner isn't as upset as some.
"I'm definitely all about helping partner with the community any way that I can just to prevent further spread of this virus. I'll do whatever I can, even if it takes a few additional weeks," said Bryan Nayor, co-owner of Gaslamp Gym.
Nayor has taken proactive steps to plan for re-opening and is ready to do so once given the green light, but fitness centers aren't the only gyms closed.
"It's been really, really tough the last 10 weeks. Trying to get in some gyms, obviously, they're all closed down and even in Binghamton, all of our parks are closed down," said Reggie Hawkins, a Binghamton basketball trainer.
Hawkins has developed basketball players in the Binghamton area for almost two decades, and with no gyms to rent out, he's utilizing resources that are available.
"I always preach no excuses. You got to be able to get your work in with a basket, a basketball, without. You've just got to be able to get your work in for whatever sport you want to do, and it's the physical shape. You always want to try and stay in that physical shape," said Hawkins.
