There's a new commissioner at the Greater Binghamton Airport, with a fresh vision for 2020 and years to come.

Mark Heefner has filled the deputy aviation commissioner role at BGM since 2015. Since then, Heefner has seen the ups and downs of the airport.

Currently, the facility only has two flights going out per day connecting to Detroit. It's something Heefner wants to change in 2020.

"We haven't accepted the fact that we only have a few flights a day and we're not going to accept that. We never will, we're going to continue to strive for more flights and that's kind of been my message since taking over to the airlines is this is not acceptable, we need more," said Heefner.

Heefner says BGM plans on applying to the Upstate Airport Economic Development and Revitalization grant program mentioned in the governor's state of the state.
