More jobs are coming to Steuben County in the coming months.
High Speed Rail Car manufacturer, Alstom has expanded its facility with the $30 million New York State promised in 2016.
The rail cars are on schedule and the first one is planned to be complete by 2021, with another one coming 2022.
High speed rail cars are very common in Europe, but in the United States, Alstom is the only manufacturer of this kind of transportation. Alstom is expected to expand its employees from 800 to 1,000 people by the end of next year at the Hornell facility.
Those extra employees will allow Alstom to get high-speed trains on the tracks more quickly.
"Over the next year, they really are trying to ramp up,” said Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul. “I just met a young woman, Sadie, who came here with no skills at all and they trained her to be a mechanic and machinist. And now she's earning a very good living wage here in Hornell, so that's what we're talking about."
