Hundreds of Broome County workers may have had their social security numbers and other financial information exposed.

Late Friday afternoon, Broome County officials sent out a notification about a data security incident.

The investigation started when an employee's direct deposit information was changed in January.

On April 1, investigators confirmed the hacker had access to sensitive information, including bank accounts and medical records.

Friday, the county released which departments were affected.

They include the Greater Binghamton Airport, County Department of Social Services, Willow Point Nursing Home, the district attorney's office, among many other Broome County agencies.

County officials say they are now working to put in new security safeguards to stop another hacking incident.

The county is also notifying affected individuals through their website. People are encouraged to call the county if they have questions.

Individuals may call 1-866-775-4209 on business days from 9 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.
