A month has passed since a DOT worker's life was cut short in the Southern Tier.

Dennis "Matt" Howe was sitting inside his vehicle when a tractor-trailer crashed into him. He would later die from his injuries.

"It could have been any single one of us sitting in that truck or sitting in that bed,” said Ryan Ashman, one of Howe’s co-workers. “It brought chills to my bones. That's my buddy."

Ryan Ashman worked with Matt Howe for five years. He remembers his friend as someone you could always count on.

"He's the one that you had good conversations with whenever you had a conversation with him,” said Ashman. “It's always a serious awesome talk or a funny talk and he made you laugh. He was the kind of guy you just wanted to be friends with."

Following the crash, DOT workers began stressing the importance of moving over when you see one of their vehicles on the road. That led Ashman to contact local company, Worldwide Sport Supply, to create shirts in his honor.

Each one reads "Move Over For Matt," sending an important message to the community.

"What better way to get the word out than to put these bright shirts on the backs of anybody who's out on the road, anybody who's walking around Wal-Mart or anywhere," said Ashman.

Since Ashman contacted the store with the idea, shirts have been flying off the shelves.

"Within a day or two we had the store live and the orders began rolling in,” said Worldwide Sport Supply owner T.J. Ciaravino. “As soon as Ryan pushed it out onto his Facebook, the orders just kept coming in. Every day we were just amazed at how much support they were getting through the store."

All of the proceeds from the Move Over For Matt apparel will go to Matt Howe's family.
