High school students from across the region are learning new ways to be more inclusive.
On Tuesday, the Owego-Apalachin school district hosted a Unified Sports Summit with Schools from 11 districts. Students spent the day learning new ways to incorporate those with developmental or intellectual disabilities into sporting events.
Some schools have already implemented mixed-ability basketball games.
"It's been such an amazing experience to come out and see everyone playing and supporting each other, people that may not have been able to have opportunities to go on sports teams before are now able to participate with other athletes," said Elmira High School senior Alexa Wagner.
"As a child myself, I was never really included in a lot of things and so to come here and be able to include different kids from our school in unified is very important to me," said Owego High School senior Jordan Cobb.
Since last year, five districts have added Unified Sports.
