It's almost time for last call at Uncle Tony's Bar and Restaurant in Binghamton. After 35 years in business, the pub is closing down next week.
Uncle Tony's held a memorial Friday in honor of its original owner Tony Basti, who passed away in November. Tony was known by his friends as the "Mayor of State Street."
Friends and former workers could come together and remember Tony. And it gives everyone a final chance to say goodbye to the man who started it all on State Street.
"I say this modestly and respectfully, the only thing bigger than Tony's mouth was his heart," said Tony's partner Albert Nocciolino. "He had a big heart. He took care a lot of people. Tonight you'll find inside a lot of our old employees, people coming back to see him when he passed and the funeral had more than 700 people there. So I think that in itself speaks to who and what Tony was."
The business's lease is up at the end of the year and will be bought out by Dillinger's who plans to expand.
