BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — Some Northside residents in Binghamton are concerned with traffic flow and they're not getting the answers they want.
The same area where there was a shots fired this week is also causing residents to voice concern of traffic safety.
"I'm concerned about the safety of our school children, and the residents over there. In terms of them being hit by a car or killed because of a lack of crossing guards, or cross walks being installed," said Brian Whalen.
Oak Street in Binghamton has been taking on a lot of traffic lately, mostly because of the large construction project taking place on Front Street.
No changes have been made yet and some lawmakers are just as unhappy.
"There is a domino effect on local neighborhoods, on local roads and quite frankly on local resources," said Binghamton City Councilor Giovanni Scaringi. "The project is taking longer than we originally expected to. There's also been work as well, as you may well know, on the flood wall that's on the eastern part of the ward over on Front Street."
"I think that what Mr. Whalen was talking about today is absolutely on the point an example of where the city of Binghamton is failing in addressing the concerns of residents because either they don't want to listen or the bureaucracy and the red tape is not being discussed fast enough, said council member," said Binghamton City Councilor Conrad Taylor.
The next traffic board meeting is scheduled for October 11 at 9 a.m.
