The Chenango Valley Central School District has lost one of its teachers, just days before the start of the school year.
48-year-old Matthew Stanton was involved in a one-car crash on Route 369 in Fenton Sunday morning.
Sheriff's Deputies say he had alcohol in his system and was speeding at the time, when he hit a stone structure that was just off the side of the road. Stanton was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Chenango Valley School District released a statement saying "Matt worked with both middle school and high school students for over 20 years." He was a coach and club advisor.
Counseling services for students and staff will be available this week, and continue as the school year begins next week.
