Friends and family of Officer Aldo Rossi gathered in the village for the unveiling of a new monument in his honor.
Rossi was waiting for a tree to be removed from the highway when he was hit and killed by a drunk driver on Route 7.
His wife, Renee, says it was always his dream to be a police officer.
He worked for both Port Dickinson and Deposit.
She says he took pride in wearing his uniform and serving the community.
"It's more about trying to celebrate his life and who he was and how he would want us to carry on," said Renee. "He loved gatherings, he family, he loved celebrations, he loved just being around people."
There's also a memorial cross and a portion of Route 7 named in honor of Officer Rossi.
