FENTON, N.Y. -- Chenango Valley State Park gets a major makeover, just in time for the warm weather.

A more than $2 million project added a new beach and swimming area, as well as a splash park and boat house.

That's not all, there is also a handicapped accessible dock and a fleet of kayaks and stand-up paddleboards.

This specific project has been in the works since 2000.

Park manager Michael Boyle says attendance is already up 44%.

"I expect that as word of this improvement gets out, it's only going to get more and more. The kids love it, the parents love it, the grandparents love it, everybody that we see come here seems to leave with a smile," said Michael Boyle, Chenango Valley State Park Manager.

The grant will also provide free swimming lessons for more than 80 children at the park.
