According to an autopsy report, Nicholas Clark, the New York State Trooper who was shot and killed this week during a standoff near Corning, was killed by buckshot, fired from a 12-gauge shotgun.

Clark, 29, was responding to a report of a suicidal man on July 2nd on Welch Road in the Town of Erwin, just south of the Steuben County city.

The suspect was identified by officials as Steven Kiley, 43, who worked as school principal in the Bradford Central School District. Police said the dispute was between Kiley and his estranged wife.

According to the autopsy report, Kiley died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Officials say he was also shot by police in the chest and would have likely died from his injuries if he had not taken his own life.

Officers say they seized 12 illegal guns that belonged to Kiley, including assault weapons, handguns as well as silencers and high-capacity magazines.

State Police said the autopsy was conducted at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.

Funeral services for trooper Clark will be held on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Alfred University.

The investigation is ongoing.
