Firefighters practiced how to handle emergencies at the Greater Binghamton Airport.

The training focused on the different types of fires they could encounter, such as wheel fires, engine fires and even fires in the inside of the cabin. The training is mandatory for all firefighters. And it's just one of many they participate in throughout the year.

“It's extremely important. It's mandated by the FAA every year that every firefighter who's listed as a firefighter is trained to the standard which is basically 13 topics that are required every year. One of them being the annual burn. And without this training we can't actually operate the fire department," said Christopher Menge, who was one of the instructors.

The department will also be participating in a classroom training soon.
