The mall first opened its doors in the 1970s. But many believe online shopping is leading to its downfall.
The Johnson City mayor says Broome County is suffering from these closures.
Not only do residents have fewer places to shop, but there's a loss of sales tax and jobs.
He says he does not know the fate of the mall, but it's the perfect location to put other businesses.
"I'm open to anything to tell you the truth," said Johnson City Mayor Greg Deemie. "Whatever we can keep to make it viable and vital to the community is what's important. We don't want another big empty building. I don't want it to end up like the other plazas around here."
Mayor Deemie says he reached out to the mall to help, but all they've said is that they're working on it.
