BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — Residents in the Southern Tier woke up to snow already coating the ground.
Many schools took action last night by closing early and even more followed this morning.
Now residents should be prepared for the snow to continue, making the roads worse as the day goes on.
Drivers are advised to give themselves plenty of time when out on the roads.
With the heavy snowfall expected, many cities are asking residents to avoid parking on the streets.
In Binghamton, officials are asking the public to park in driveways, public garages or city owned parks.
Meanwhile in Johnson City, officials are reminding the public to not park on red line streets or snow emergency routes.
All municipal parking lots will be free today and tomorrow in Johnson City for snow removal.
And of course, alternate parking is still in effect in both cities.
