April the Giraffe has become an overnight internet sensation at Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville. And thanks to all that attention, the park is gearing up for one of their busiest seasons yet. Camille DeLongis has a look at how all the hype is expected to impact business.

HARPURSVILLE, N.Y. -- Soon-to-be mother April the Giraffe has taken the internet, and world, by storm.

"This really gives people like us who live in a rural area an opportunity to learn and I think it's really cool that we have a place so nearby that really is dedicated to educating the community," said Vestal resident Nicole Ross.

From homes and classrooms near and far, April is still captivating millions of viewers each day.

"We've had people say how their families have come together to talk giraffes and eat dinner over watching the giraffe cam," said Animal Adventure Park Owner Jordan Patch.

With the all the hype of baby giraffe on the way, the park is expecting to at least double attendance numbers this upcoming season.

"I know it's going to be a zoo, so to speak, when we want to go. I know it's going to be a lot busier there, but definitely looking forward to it," said Ross.

"Not only do we expect to have people driving in from much farther, but also flying in. We get probably about 8 to 10 emails a day about which airports and which hotels to stay in here locally. And again, that brings positive residuals to everyone around us," said Patch.

To accommodate, discussions are taking place about traffic control, expanding parking, and pre-sale tickets.

"We don't want the quality of experience to suffer because of the quantity of people that are here," said Patch.

The calf isn't the only exciting addition this year. There will be close to a dozen new species on the property at the start of the season, and more to come throughout the year.

"This year we break ground on a new guest services and welcome center which will have indoor exhibits, a new gift shop, and a new entrance. We have a large animal barn going up which is the African animal conservation outpost which is part of our six-acre expansion. What animals will call that home? We're not telling you just yet," said Patch.

For now, if you're tuned into April's live feed and wondering how she's doing, keepers note significant baby movement and belly growth.
