LIVERPOOL, N.Y. -- More than 188 million people are expected to watch Super Bowl LI Sunday when the Atlanta Falcons take on the New England Patriots in Houston. And many of those people will be heading to the grocery store in the coming days for those Super Bowl snacks.
A National Retail Federation survey estimates about 80 percent of the people who watch the big game will purchase food and beverages this year.
There's just something about getting together with your friends and family and enjoying things that taste good -- and not only taking in the game but all the commercials and entertainment as well.
The retail federation says the average Super Bowl viewer will spend an estimated $75 on snacks, merchandise, and apparel.
Wegmans has been stocking up their shelves and rolling out special offerings for the big game. They've also been taking in several pre-orders for pizzas, wings, and subs.
Store officials say a lot of people also look to bring something unique to a Super Bowl party.
"We know that people like quesadillas so we have the quesadillas already cut and prepared with the salsa right in the tray itself. We obviously have our Monster Wing Bar which is quite available for people. And, a lot of people actually like to do sushi as well," said Wegmans Community Relations Director Evelyn Carter.
Wegmans like many other stores will have some extra staffing on Sunday to be ready for the busy flow.
Most stores will recommend placing those pre-orders as soon as possible. Wegmans suggests you give them at least 24 hours.
