Going through the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel just got a lot smoother.

Open road cashless tolls are now in place there.

Cameras now read EZ Pass tags and license plates so cars don't have to stop to pay the toll.

Drivers are automatically charged or sent a bill each month.

The state says commuters will save up to 21 hours of driving time each year.

Cashless tolls are expected to be at all MTA bridges and tunnels by the end of the year.
