BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Downtown Binghamton plans to bring new solar powered parking kiosks to the city.

Mayor Richard David introduced the pilot project Thursday.

The project will include five kiosks, and if it's successful, more kiosks will be implemented to replace the city parking meters. There will be features that allow announcements from the city and printable coupons for local stores and restaurants.

Mayor David said this is one initiative that will help Binghamton improve.

"Cities across the State of New York and across the nation are moving towards parking kiosks for a variety of different reasons. As downtown continues to evolve and develop, we not only want to invest in our parking infrastructure, but improve downtown from an aesthetic standpoint,” said David.

Drivers will be able to use cash, coins or credit cards at the new kiosks.
