At the end of the year, Steuben County will have a new sheriff.

Sheriff David Cole announced Tuesday he is retiring in December after 41 years of law enforcement service. Cole's career included jobs at the Wayland Police Department, state police, and Addison Village Police Department before the Steuben County Sheriff's Office. Cole served nine years as undersheriff before his four years as sheriff.

Cole says he is supporting his undersheriff Jim Allard who is expected to announce his candidacy for Steuben County sheriff Wednesday.
