Models of nine famous landmarks, from across the East Coast can, now be found at the Staten Island Mall. NY1's Angi Gonzalez explains why the Lego Americana Roadshow brought the exhibit to the borough.
"It’s really impressive, very nice," said one family of the life-size Liberty Bell on display at the Staten Island Mall on Sunday.
Replicas of nine iconic buildings and architectural structures are now sprinkled throughout the mall. Each of the displays are made entirely of Legos.
"Absolutely, it's beautiful," remarked another shopper as he snapped a picture of the Washington Monument model.
Shoppers stopped to snap pictures of the models, which include the Statue of Liberty, Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, Supreme Court and the White House.
However, the models offer shoppers more than just a unique photo opportunity.
They present organizers with a chance to teach, specifically children, about U.S. History.
At each of the models, visitors can learn more about the landmarks and how LEGO Master Builders were able to put them together.
The roadshow also includes free hands on activities for parents and kids.
In the Lego Play Area, there are display cases that hold some of the items children have made while at the mall.
Some parents visited the Roadshow in the hopes that it might spark their child's interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
"I'm into the STEM sciences myself and I try to encourage my daughter to do that as well," said shopper Michael Costino.
This upcoming Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 22-24, the Roadshow will host an event from Noon-4 p.m.
During the event, visitors will get the chance to create their own miniature model of the Statue of Liberty and take it home.
