PAINTED POST, N.Y. -- Technology plays an important role in our everyday lives, and the Corning-Painted Post School District knows students are no exception.
"Technology has always been that it's something extra," said middle-school language and literature teacher Lori Pruyne. "It's been what we'd do if we had the resources or the time, but as the world is changing, technology is embedded into every single thing they do."
The district has planned out how to allocate the $3.8 million received from the Smart Schools Bond Act. With more electronic devices comes more need for bandwidth, so that's a top priority.
"Fifteen hundred kids at the high school, 1,100 kids at the middle school, and we'd like for them to be -- all to be -- able to use some type of technology at the same time," said Michelle Caulfield, the district director of secondary education.
It's all part of incorporating more digital experiences into students' learning. In the classroom, that includes interactive boards, which teachers say are helping students with different learning styles.
"Students who have a difficult time engaging in traditional classroom settings engage through different computer programs and technologies," Pruyne said.
Another portion of the funds will go toward increasing security at some of the district's schools.
"We're looking at exterior cameras, interior cameras, and access into the building using the security system to get in," Caulfield said.
