ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Police in Elmira are searching for two suspects involved in a shooting Thursday afternoon that prompted a lockdown at nearby Coburn Elementary School.

Police responded to a fight on Fulton Street just before 3 p.m. When officers arrived, they found a man shot and bleeding on the sidewalk. A SWAT team then entered the house and cleared the scene. 

The victim was taken to the hospital, and there is no word on his current condition. His mother was inside when the shooting happened.

District officials locked down Coburn Elementary School just before 4 p.m. when they were notified by Elmira police that gunshots were reported near the school.

The lockdown came after school was dismissed, but some students were still in the building for an after-school program. They were all picked up by around 5 p.m.

Police say they're currently looking for two suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call 271-HALT.
