BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Identity theft is big business for criminals, and it can leave victims with empty bank accounts and years of financial headaches.
The Better Business Bureau of Upstate New York is holding a "secure your ID day" at four Tops friendly markets across the state Saturday.
Peggy Penders with the bureau said shredding is done on site. Thieves can fake your identity by combing through your garbage, she said, so shredding documents with sensitive information is one way to protect yourself.
