ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- If you've gassed up your car lately, you've profited from the latest good news. According to AAA, gas prices have dropped more than 10 cents in the Rochester area recently.

The average gas price in the Rochester area is $2.62. In July, the gas prices were 20 cents higher, at $2.83 per gallon. AAA is reporting the dip in gas prices reflects a nationwide trend. Prices are falling at the fastest rate since January. That’s welcome news for Margie Waters of Rochester.

“For a lot of people it will free up money especially for people who commute far distances, in and out of the city for work,” said Waters.

Experts said the nationwide dip is happening due to cheaper crude oil costs. Robert Moraza isn’t sure the lower prices are here to stay. He travels back and forth to New York City so he’s enjoying the cheaper prices at the pump, but believes it will be short-lived.

“If it’s going to be low for a while that’s great, but I feel like it will go up again," said Moraza.
