BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The new Ross Park Amphitheater was unveiled at the Binghamton Zoo Thursday by Mayor Rich David, Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo and others.
In 2011, the old Ross Park Amphitheater was badly damaged by flooding. The new one, located away from the flood-prone area, has improved handicap accessibility and lighting.
It seats 300 people and will be used to host educational events, animal exhibits and musical performances.
A state grant and $100,000 worth of engineering and project management services provided by the city helped make it possible.
"This could be a game-changer and a new attraction to the park and to the zoo and to the Discovery Center, so we're thrilled to have it online," said zoo Director Steven Contento.
McDonald's is sponsoring the amphitheater to help bring in entertainment.
