WHEATFIELD, N.Y. --  The Niagara County Sheriff's Office is releasing new information about Friday's deadly shooting in Wheatfield.

They say Duane Bores, 58 and Cynthia Bores, 55 were shot by their son, Duane Bores Junior.

They say the 25-year-old shot and critically injured his parents inside their Errick Road home Friday afternoon.  He then went outside to confront a sheriff's deputy, responding to a 9-1-1 hang up at the house.

Investigators say Bores Junior pulled a gun on the deputy and a shoot-out ensued. Bores Junior suffered multiple gunshot wounds before he retreated back the house-- then he turned the gun on himself.

That deputy was shot in his bulletproof vest but is okay.  He's been placed on paid administrative leave.

"Who knows why this guy came out shooting?” says Niagara County Sheriff James Voutour.  “Obviously the deputy didn't do anything to him. He was simply there to help him. He was there because someone called 911 and asked for help. Like police officers do every day, he just went to that house to see what he could do to help."

The scene forced neighboring Errick Road Elementary School into lock-down.
