BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Jobs were a main focuses for Broome County Executive Debbie Preston as she delivered her State of the County address Thursday evening.

Preston hinted at business expansions in the county in the near future, but didn't give out details many details.

One economic development project Preston discussed at length was the development of the Binghamton airport corridor. She said one difficulty at bringing jobs in is the lack of shovel-ready properties in the county.

The planned work along the airport corridor outside Binghamton will add water and sewer amenities in an area that could be developed.

"This is the first step in creating a corporate park near the airport, which will position us to bring hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars in revenue and economic development to Broome County," said Preston.

Preston said businesses look for areas around airports as well as ways to move products and their people through the world quickly.

The county executive also discussed contract negotiations with unionized county employees; the future of Willow Point Nursing Home, which she reiterated would not close; and what she said was the high level of heroin addiction and use in Broome.
