This weekend on In Focus, we’re talking about how to keep you and your family healthy as we enter flu and RSV season.
JoDee Kenney sits down with Assemblymember John McDonald, who is also a pharmacist. McDonald said November is often the last month to get vaccinated for flu and RSV before cases see their typical rise in December.
JoDee welcomes Dr. Gale Burstein, Erie County Health commissioner, to the conversation. Dr. Burstein said the county is working with the New York State Department of Health to conduct surveillance for cases of flu, RSV and COVID-19.
As we turn this week’s In Focus conversation to the increase in respiratory illnesses during the winter season, JoDee welcomed in Dr. Jana Shaw, MD, MPH, MS, FAAP, FPIDS, professor of Pediatrics, Public Health, and Preventive Medicine, Pediatric Infectious Diseases, and Hospital Epidemiologist, at Golisano Children's Hospital. Dr. Shaw said with infants and children among the most susceptible to more serious respiratory illness, it’s important to begin vaccinating against flu and COVID-19 as young as 6 months.
