BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- It's a heart healthy event students at one Binghamton area school look forward to every year.

Calvin Coolidge Elementary School students in teams of three took part in Jump Rope for Heart Wednesday. It's part of a month long lesson.

The students have been studying the heart and have been learning about how to have a healthy lifestyle, and of course they've been doing a lot of jump rope.

"They get a lot of fitness out of it through jumping, we jump every single class and they learn about giving back to the community. They have to work as a team, so it incorporates so many things. It's a very special event for us," said Adana Brauer, Calvin Coolidge Elementary School physical education teacher.

"I'm proud to do it because there's a lot of kids out there that have heart problems and I really want to help out," said Ariel Bidwell, a Calvin Coolidge Elementary 4th grade student.

The school has been holding the event since 2001, and has raised more than $40,000 for the American Heart Association.
