BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The gruesome details of a 2013 double homicide are brought to light once again.
Jurors in Broome County Court spent Wednesday learning what allegedly led to a double murder inside a town of Binghamton home.
The man on the stand is Aaron Powell.
He’s spent four years behind bars for the murder of his estranged wife Christina Powell and her friend Mario Masciarelli.
That conviction was later reversed on appeal.
Powell was now the suspect.
He was arrested days later in Pennsylvania with Masciarelli's DNA on him.
The prosecution also claims Powell told his friend earlier that night that he had found something out and was “going on a mission.”
Powell then allegedly said he had an extension cord and could, “kill them both.”
But the defense claims this entire case was mishandled.
Attorney Bruce Barket began the day telling the jury they’d be disappointed with the proof in this case.
He says once Powell was a suspect, police never looked back.
Barket also claims it was actually Christina Powell’s DNA on the handle of the baseball bat, along with the DNA of two others who were never tested.
He says someone else killed Masciarelli and there was DNA Of another individual on the cord used to strangle Christina.
The defense also told the jury they’d feel terrible about the way evidence was collected and claimed investigators cheated.
Testimony continues Thursday.
